almost 100 pages into The Mountain in the Sea and really liking it so far! today i put my phone upstairs and spent much of the morning reading on the couch. there's a passage in there that really encapsulates a feeling i've been talking about for years about time and changing as people and being uncomfortable looking at past versions of ourselves. i'll get more into it when i have the bandwidth but trust that i felt SEEN

i finished City and i have to say i did not like it. it could’ve done with like 50 less pages and any sort of information about the proper noun factions. i listened to a podcast recently talking about the world building of LOTR and how you don’t really need to know anything deep to be invested in the story and i felt like there was intentionally No explanation here unless im a fucking idiot and missed it. anyway. next is The Mountain In The Sea by Ray Naylor which has a glowing review from the author who wrote the book i just hated. so that’s awesome

i’m 3/4 of the way through The City in the Middle of the Night and still honestly not entirely sure what’s happening. i’ve been reading it at work so maybe im too distracted but i think the specific lore is lost on me a little. i understand the colonization aspect. it’s the regular plot stuff i don’t understand. i will finish it

the wheel generator has dictated i read The City in the Middle of the Night. i had to spin the wheel a few times to really get something interesting to me right now. unwilling to do romance, would love to stay in the end times fiction. just introduced a character named Mouth. exciting stuff.

i just finished Parable of the Sower without freaking realizing. when i see 50 more pages to a book, i assume there's more book. nope. just reading guide material. so now i'm the fucking idiot. it was really really realllllllyyyy good and im very excited about the sequel. it makes me think about my relationship to God, and if that Stuff is really for me and i truly don't think it is. i have only ever viewed God as a sort of locked door.... maybe a bouncer..... and all my prayers and hopes and actions were just a way to make him happy so i don't go to hell or worse actually die. and that is OCD. when i was a kid, my uncle overdosed but my parents told me he died in his sleep. for weeks i would pray every night to not die in my sleep. so that's what God is to me. not merciful or vengeful, just a light switch i keep checking <3
anyway. loved this one. i think Octavia Butler is a phenomenal writer. surreal to read passages that were meant to take place in the month i'm currently living in.
